Ever heard of "puebleando" in Colombia?
If not, you're missing out! This is everyone's favorite Sunday plan. "Pueblear" refers to town hopping, walking the streets, eating local food, and seeing the sights that each quaint area has to offer. Check out three perfect day trips when looking to town hop while staying in Medellin.
San Pedro de Los Milagros

If you are looking for colder weather and beautiful mountain views, San Pedro de Los Milagros is your place. Located about an hour and a half by bus outside of Medellin, this small town is known for its cattle industry that fuels production of its famous dairy products. Every Sunday, the main square in front of the renowned, 131-year-old cathedral you can find locals selling artisan products and snacks after church. Walk around the local "Parque El Calvario" and get a view of the town's gorgeous rural landscape which is often referred to as the "Swiss Alps of Colombia". For a unique and fun lunch spot, check out Kansas Ranch about ten minutes outside of the town center to catch and eat your own trout.
Santa Fe Antioquia

Santa Fe Antioquia was the original capital of the department of Antioquia and is therefore known for it's historical significance and still displays art and other artifacts from that important time in history. Get ready to sweat as Santa Fe is one of warmer towns to encounter in the region. But don't worry, there are plenty of hole-in-the-wall ice cream shops around town to get through the heat of the day. With that being said, it is a good idea to stay at a hotel with a pool since midday heat can be uncomfortable. Located slightly outside of the main town area, make sure to plan to see the famous "Puente de Occidente", an iconic suspension bridge engineered by José María Villa in 1895. This is one of the main attractions in the area and is truly an admirable sight.
El Carmen de Viboral

Known for its pottery and ceramic art, this small town is definitely for the art lovers. Everywhere you look, you will find details make with mosaic pieces and handmade ceramic which adds to its unique character as a town. You must walk around and visit the artisan shops around the main square, buy a dessert or two, and admire the traditional ceramic. Many shops offer painting workshops, and if you have lots of time, you can even do a full pottery class. Paseo del Ángel is a cute alley way with colorful umbrellas hanging overhead, perfect for taking aesthetic pictures and buying a souvenir or two. Finally, the perfect ending to this day trip is just a short walk from the main square, Plaza Rose, and offers lots of dining options to enjoy before heading out.
So what exactly are you supposed to do when you "pueblear"? Well, the details are up to you. Just make sure you see the main square which usually is home to a stunning cathedral and a plethora of local food vendors. As far as the rest, I encourage you to walk around and see what opportunities and experiences present themselves. I promise, once you begin "puebleando", you won't want to stop.
Get to town hopping!
